How do I know it's the cable and not the panel?
Connect an external monitor via HDMI. If that works, the problem is in the panel or the ribbon cable. Slowly open/close the lid — if flicker follows the movement, the cable is the cause.

Do I have to replace the whole display?
No, only the ribbon cable. It is a more involved repair though: you pop the bezel off and lift the panel out of the lid — budget 45-60 minutes.

Does this cable also fit touchscreen versions?
This cable is for the non-touch variant. Touchscreen models use a different cable with extra digitizer pins.
